A number of factors contribute to the price and quality of a Warehouse, Janitor, or Household broom. The
most important factors determining the ultimate quality and cost of a broom are:
1. WEIGHT (total weight of materials used per dozen) and PACKAGING
2. TYPE OF FIBER
A.) Broom corn, grown and processed predominantly in Mexico for the U.S. market, has enjoyed a tremendous longevity because of its natural wear, moisture resistance, and sweeping qualities. Today we also purchase this raw material from Ethiopia, Hungary, China, and Paraguay.
B.) Sotol fiber, is predominantly grown in the U.S., yet processed in Mexico for the U.S. market, also known as bear grass or yucca fiber, is commonly used as a filler material inside the broom body to keep cost down. It is important to note sotol costs are much cheaper in price per lb. than broom corn and DOES NOT possess the important inherent qualities of broom corn.
3. PERCENTAGE OF BROOM CORN AND SOTOL FIBER
(if used as a blend)
4. HANDLES
For many decades we have seen a luxury in a hardwood handle from Indonesia called "Ramin". Today with environmental and government regulations this wood for dowels in broom handles has become overpriced per the amount of money the consumer is willing to pay for a manufactured broom. To date there has been no adequate substitutions found for replacement of past years specifications. Whether in a hardwood or pine our company will continue to maintain an adequate level of quality to pricing for our customers.
